THE Miss Tourism auditions started on a high note after 14 models turned up for the beauty pageant held in the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority board room after organisers were forced to scrap off the $20 registration fee in a bid to lure more pageants.

The organisers are expecting more models this weekend as they round off the final edition of auditions. The satisfactory turn up has compelled the organisers to appeal for solid corporate support and sponsorship for aspiring models in the province.

“A number of participants phoned requesting for a waiver of the administration fee. We have taken note of the request and have decided to scrap off the fee.

“We had 13 girls who came through for the auditions. I am very happy with the calibre of ladies who are coming through. Most of them are up to date with current affairs and can answer questions intelligently which is a pre-requisite as we are looking for beauty with brains. We are expecting a good turnout this weekend, but would like to implore corporates to partner us and empower the girl child,” said Miss Tourism Manicaland licence holder Caroline Marufu-Buwu.

Among the models was Miss World Zimbabwe 2018 finalist, 24-year old Gracious Manyanhaire.

Buwu is confident that the crown will come back to Mutare after last year’s feat in which Tafadzwa Jaricha came out tops in the national finals held in Bulawayo.

The provincial finals will be held on July 27 at Montclair Hotel in Juliasdale under the theme: “Zimbabwe at work” where talented Mutare-based musician, Caff will perform live.
