INFORMATION, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa’s kindness left administrators and the young ones at Kudavana Children’s Home in Msabayana Village smiling after she donated 80 blankets and 20 bags of maize-meal.

Minister Mutsvangwa presented the donation last week on Friday. Kudavana Children’s Home, formerly Murwira Children’s Home, takes care of 53 children (26 boys and 27 girls) and was renamed when it relocated to 22 Miles in 2016.

The orphanage caters for children from birth up until they turn 18. It also assists some of them to secure livelihoods after leaving the home.

Minister Mutsvangwa said Government prioritises the well-being of young children.

“The reason I am here making this donation is that apart from me being a mother, the Government I am serving prioritises the well-being of the young ones. This orphanage touched my heart as it takes care of children from childbirth, some would have been dumped, while others would have lost their mothers at birth.

“We are thankful to the mothers who work here providing maternal care to these young souls. We take the lives of our children seriously and that is why we find the time and resources to ensure the comfort of these children,” she said.

This is not the first time that the minister has given a helping hand to Kudavana Children’s Home. She has facilitated the orphanage’s strong relationship with food stuff manufacturer, Surface Wilmar (formerly Olivine Industries).

Every month, the company provides various food items to the orphanage. Kudavana Children’s Home director, Mr William Pepukai thanked Minister Mutsvangwa for the kind gesture.

“We really want to thank Minister Mutsvangwa for always showing us her motherly side. She has come up with so many initiatives aimed at securing assistance for us. We will always admire and cherish her wish to ensure that at some stage we will be self reliant as evidenced by her latest initiative to ensure that we get dairy cows for milk,” he said.

Minister Mutsvangwa, who also donated five computers to Manzununu Secondary School on the same day, said Government is geared to ensure that e-learning is expedited across the whole country. The donated computers will be used by both pupils and teachers.

“We are also mindful of the need to ensure that e-learning is expedited in every part of the country. This is why I have donated these five computers to Manzununu Secondary School. While this might be a drop in the ocean, starting the ball rolling and supporting the vision is what matters most.

“Covid-19 has taught us the importance of e-learning. This is a Government policy that we want to be implemented with the urgency it deserves. Relevant departments such as the Rural Electrification Agency are all privy to this,” she said.

Not so long ago, Minister Mutsvangwa helped the school with the installation of solar panels covering a three-classroom block.
