In a move that will bridge the digital divide between urban and rural schools, Zimunya-Marange Senator, who is also Information, Broadcasting Services and Publicity Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa last week donated six computers to schools in the area.

The computers were donated to Zimunya, Mushunje, Gutaurare, Mafararikwa and Mount Tate Primary Schools, as well as Nyagundi Secondary School.

Speaking as she made the donation during a Zanu PF Women’s League Inter-district meeting for Zimunya-Marange held at Bezel Bridge last week on Thursday, Senator Mutsvangwa said the move is in line with the country’s economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy (NDS1).

“Bridging the digital divide between rural and urban schools is at the heart of President Mnangagwa’s efforts and in playing my part, I am donating these laptops to these schools.

“This is in support of NDS1. We hope these computers will help in fighting child marriages and the curse of school drop-outs,” she said.

Senator Mutsvangwa urged the school heads to create their respective schools’ databases to help the country identify the number of drop-outs and the reasons behind it.

She also donated a wheelchair, maize-meal and buckets to the elderly, the less privileged and the area’s traditional leaders.

The district’s party leadership also received bicycles.

Addressing those in attendance, Senator Mutsvangwa urged party members to remain united and shun factionalism.

“We have no room for factionalism and disunity. The ruling party is a party of discipline that focuses on protecting the sovereignty of this nation. Remain united as we head towards the harmonised elections for a resounding victory,” said Senator Mutsvangwa.

She further urged people to vote for the ruling party’s candidates.
“People died for this country and up to now, we are exhuming and giving proper burials to our fellow comrades who died during the liberation war, so you cannot sell this country on a platter,” she said.

Senator Mutsvangwa also urged them to shun protest votes.

“When you cast protest votes, you end up voting corrupt people into office. Those from the opposition have no leadership to be accountable to. Vote the ruling party into office.

“Take stock of the opposition that was voted into power in the past elections, you will see that they only developed and enriched themselves, while neglecting the people who voted them into power. They have failed their supporters and that alone should be a reason to vote Zanu PF into power,” said Senator Mutsvangwa.

She also challenged women not to take the developments that have been spearheaded by President ED and the ruling party across the country for granted.

“Leading a nation needs a vision and President Mnangagwa is a visionary leader. We are witnessing a good number of developments in the country. President Mnangagwa is preaching that no one and no place should be left behind and this has seen even remote areas being developed,” she said.

The Zimunya-Marange area covers the Mutare North, Mutare South and Mutare West Constituencies.

All three constituencies were won by Zanu PF during the 2018 harmonised elections.

The ruling party’s Manicaland provincial chairperson, Cde Tawanda Mukodza said the party is confident of retaining all the seats during this year’s harmonised elections.

In her address, the Women’s League’s provincial chairperson, Cde Happiness Nyakuedzwa said they are ready to wrestle for the few local authority seats that are currently in the hands of the opposition.

Cde Nyakuedzwa also urged women to contest for the positions.

“As the Women’s League, we do not have an agenda of disturbance. Our only agenda is that of voting President Mnangagwa back in office. We promise President Mnangagwa a resounding victory.

“We are oiling our machinery for a resounding victory. We want empowered women and they can only be empowered if they are in decision making positions,” said Cde Nyakuedzwa.
