DEMOLITION job!

This aptly describes the impressive performance Zimbabwe’s senior women football team put up in overpowering Eswatini in the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations first round qualifier.

Following a convincing 3-1 victory in Harare in the first leg last week on Thursday, the Mighty Warriors reproduced the magic to clobber their opponents by an emphatic 3-0 scoreline in Manzini yesterday.

Reliable goalscorer, Majory Nyaumwe, Maudy Mafuruse and Shyline Dambamuromo were on target for the visitors, while the defence was not breached.

The result, a comprehensive 6-1 on aggregate, powers them into the next round and final stage of the qualifiers set for February 2022.

They will square off against western neighbours Botswana, who got the better of Angola 7-1 on aggregate, in the tie.

Zimbabwe will be hoping to make it to the continental competition where they last participated in 2016.

The finals will be staged in Morocco next year.

A dozen teams will compete at the tournament, which will also serve as the African qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Mighty Warriors rarely disappoint in cheering the spirits of followers of the game.

This is the reason they are the country’s most successful national team, having qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil as well as the Africa Women Cup of Nations on four occasions (2000, 2002, 2004 and 2016).
