MUTARE Mayor, Tatenda Nhamarare, recently quit his position as the patron of municipality outfit, Mutare City Rovers Football Club, citing pressing commitments elsewhere.
Nhamarare, a passionate football follower in his own right, was part of the Mutare City Rovers leadership when the team gained Premiership promotion up until it was relegated from the country’s top-flight football league.
The soft spoken city father told Post Sport that he had stepped down as the Mutare City Rovers patron.
“I think we just have to learn to give others a chance in our communities and it is in the same spirit that I have decided to step down and give others a chance.
“We have had good and bad times at City Rovers, but generally it was a worthwhile experience that I will forever cherish.
I learnt my lessons and will always be grateful to City Rovers for affording me the opportunity to learn so many things about local football administration,” said Nhamarare.
During his stint with Mutare City Rovers, Nhamarare came under severe criticism for his role in the administration of the club after communication from PSL notifying of the club of the suspension of a player Kudakwashe Gurure was not passed on to the technical department and instead kept at his office, thereby costing the club of priceless points.
