HARARE based businessman and corporate lawyer, Mr Misheck Mataranyika has pledged to play a pivotal and leading role in the development of his Makoni South home area.

The area has been lagging behind despite its vast potential to develop.

Mr Mataranyika who hails from Rukweza area said he did not hesitate to respond to the growing calls from the people of his home area for him to come and partner them in the development of Makoni South. The soft spoken Mataranyika who is into funeral assurance sector has already hit the ground running in the area carrying out tangible, relevant and sustainable developmental projects in the constituency.

He set the ball rolling by availing resources for rehabilitation of the road networks, building of clinics, classroom blocks and providing learning materials among other essentials. The community is fully behind his endeavours to develop the constituency and essentially co-operating with Mr Mataranyika.

In an interview with The Manica Post, Mr Mataranyika said he was a development oriented person who was going to activate his vast established networks and synergies to push for the physical development of the underdeveloped constituency.

“I was approached by the traditional and political leadership and the generality of the people of Makoni South constituency to come back home and partner them for the development of this area. I was so humbled by this gesture and I did not hesitate to respond positively to the call.

“I will work hand in glove with the community in addressing the challenges they are facing. My role is to be the link between the community and Government departments and developmental agencies. I will also capitalise on my established networks and synergies for the development of this area.

“Their main worry is that the area has been neglected for too long without any meaningful development. The roads are in a deplorable state; some are virtually impassable. Even the Nyazura-Murambinda highway is full of dangerous potholes.

“We have already secured a motorised grader that has begun work in Mukamba and it will go to other areas. Some community members have pledged to chip in with fuel and that is very encouraging,” he said.

Mr Mataranyika added that they had mobilised resources for the completion of Nzvimbe Clinic and work had already commenced. The clinic has been under construction for many years without being completed. He said they were also going to rehabilitate boreholes in the constituency and had started with Groob Springs Clinic borehole.

“So far we have handed over 1 000 exercise books to each of these schools – Groob Springs, Quagga Kloof, Nzvimbe and Mukamba. We have also given each school 100 chicks and feed to support the schools’ feeding programme and income generating projects.

“This is just the beginning – we are going to do more as the community is still discovering more critical areas that require urgent attention,” said Mr Mataranyika.

Ward 17 councillor, Cde James Sanyangore said they were happy with the work that was being done by Mr Mataranyika and said they would closely work with him so that they can get the best out of his generosity.

“We are very glad to have a person like Mr Mataranyika whom we approached and he responded positively. Now it’s time to work with this progressive man to achieve development in this area. Makoni South is lagging behind in terms of development but with the emergency of a development oriented person like him I think we are now on the right track to achieve our goals,” said Cde Sanyangore.
