A 17-YEAR-OLD teenager from Kusena Village under Chief Marange’s area was arrested for allegedly raping his two-year-old niece. The incident happened last Friday.Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the arrest of the teenager whose name cannot be disclosed to protect the identity of the complainant.
It is alleged that on the fateful day, the mother of the girl had gone to attend a meeting at a nearby school leaving the two at home.
“The teenager called the girl into the kitchen hut where he was and she obliged. “He then raped her once at around 2pm. A neighbour, Tanaka Rhoda visited the homestead and saw the teenager assisting the girl to wear her panties.
“Tanaka carried her to her place. She later observed blood oozing from her private parts. “Tanaka alerted the mother of the complainant who then reported the matter to the police. The accused was arrested,” she said.
Insp Kakohwa urged mothers to take care of their children and not to leave them with male relatives. Meanwhile, a 14-year-old girl from Nyamazira Village under Chief Chikore in Rusape was last week raped by her neighbour.
The complainant’s mother left the girl alone at home and went to Nyamazira Shopping Centre. The accused person, Happymore Sanyangare (52) of the same village approached the girl and requested for an empty Coca-Cola bottle. The girl entered the hut to collect the bottle and Sanyangare followed her.
He raped her once. After committing the act, he ran away. The girl then revealed the matter to her mother later on and a police report was made.
The rapist is still at large and police are appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Sanyangare to report to any nearest police station.
