PREPARATIONS for this year’s much-awaited Manicaland Scouts Association annual party scheduled for this Saturday at Chinziwa Scout Camp in Vumba are at an advanced stage.

The banquet, according to the association’s chairman, Mr Ernest Mungwari, is meant to celebrate the association’s milestone achievements attained in the year 2017.

“The preparations are going on well. All scout leaders in Manicaland must not miss out on the event. I call upon my team across the province to come in their numbers and celebrate a successful year.

“The scout leaders fought a good fight in 2017 and they must be rewarded for their sterling efforts. Voluntary work is not easy. Some rover scouts are already on the ground camping until the day of the event. Scouting in Manicaland has reached dizzy heights thanks to hardworking team of leaders,” he said.

Among some of the achievements were the appointment of a substantive provincial scout commissioner, Mr Thomas Mabika, and his assistant commissioners.

Three leaders attained wood badges after they conducted some training, a massive achievement in scouts. Manicaland also successfully hosted two major national events, namely the national elective annual general meeting and the scout national skills competitions.

During the Annual General Meeting, Mr Mungwari and the secretary, Mr Zimunhu, were awarded with medals for their outstanding contributions to the development of scouting in Zimbabwe. The award was in recognition of Mr Mungwari’s immense contribution to the construction of a 1 000-seater hall in Vumba.

Meanwhile, the association is currently working on building numbers for the Africa Scout Day to be held in Ruwa in March next year. The annual event is celebrated in each SADC country on a rotational basis. Zimbabwe is hosting next year’s historic event and Manicaland is expected to send more than 500 scout delegates to the event.

“It is a great event for scouting in Zimbabwe as it happens once in 11 years,” added Mr Mungwari.
