ZANU PF Manicaland Province has thrown its full weight behind the candidature of Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa as President and First Secretary of the ruling party at the ongoing Seventh National People’s Congress in Harare.

The province also nominated and endorsed President Mnangagwa as the ruling party’s sole Presidential candidate for the 2023 harmonised elections.

This was among the resolutions passed by the province. The resolutions will be tabled at the congress in Harare.

Zanu PF provincial chairman, Cde Mike Madiro confirmed the nomination and endorsement of President Mnangagwa this week.

“As for Manicaland, it is all systems go for the congress. The major highlight of our resolutions is the unanimous nomination and endorsement of President Mnangagwa as the sole candidate to be the President and First Secretary of the ruling party. We also nominated and endorsed President Mnangagwa as our sole Presidential candidate for the 2023 harmonised elections,” said Cde Madiro.

On the state of the party, Manicaland stated that Zanu PF should ensure speedy and efficient implementation of the ruling party’s election manifesto and resolutions.

“We resolved that there should be strict adherence to the party’s constitution and observance of the party ideology. There must not be any compromise on disciplinary issues and actions taken must always be guided by the party constitution.

“The Zanu PF party constitution should be translated into all the languages of Zimbabwe and should be made available for purchase from a party bookshop,” said Cde Madiro.

He added: Leadership positions in the party and Government must be assumed by cadres of good and exemplary reputation who have gone through the proper ideological orientation of the Chitepo School of Ideology.

The Chitepo School of Ideology should be de-centralised to all provinces.

“Vote buying in the party’s internal elections should be curbed as it erodes the ethos and values of the party and the liberation struggle. The party must make sure that the imposition of candidates in any electoral process should not be tolerated and the process of any internal electoral process must be fair, credible and conclusive.

“We also resolved that the party should be strict on waivers. Transfer of a member from one province to another should not be a ground for waiver. If need be, a member should have transferred no less than three years before contesting for a parliamentary or council or internal party position.

“Factionalism in whatever form should not be tolerated as it causes unnecessary divisions in the party. Mechanism should be in place to guard against infiltration by counter revolutionary elements.”

On food security, the party directed Government to put in place measures to strengthen the implementation and monitoring of all agricultural support programmes to avoid their abuse.

“The party directs Government to ensure timeous distribution of farming inputs and implements to farmers. We are also calling for the timeous payment for all farming produce delivered by farmers.

“Packaging of inputs provided by Government should differ in colour to those available on the market. The inputs should be clearly branded with the name of the programme to make it clear they are not for resale. Industrial manufacturing or assembling of farming kits and machinery must be done locally,” said Cde Madiro.

On provincial economic development, Cde Madiro said: “Government must put in place a fund or private sector facility to support local provincial industries like Quest Motors, Cairns, Border Timbers, Wattle Company, Manica Boards and Doors, Border Streams, Mega Market and Tanganda.

“Other companies should come on board to promote value addition and beneficiation of the provincial resources in line with the growth of the provincial Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“The much-awaited Gemology Centre should be built in Mutare for the value addition of diamonds and other minerals as well as growth of the province’s GDP.

“The upgrading of Mutare Grand Reef Airstrip into an established international standard airport in order to support the tourism, horticultural and other industries in the province should be prioritised,” he said.

The party also called for the introduction of legislation that regulates religion and safeguards against religious fanaticism.
