MANICALAND pool teams are geared up ahead of the third edition of Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) Championships, which starts tomorrow (Saturday) in Marondera.
According to Manicaland Pool League, Fungai Makoni, Manicaland teams have done the necessary preparations ahead of the big event. He also expressed confidence in the teams.
The two-day event will see a total of 48 teams participating from all the country’s 10 provinces. Each province will be fielding its top four teams and Manicaland will be represented by Rozvi Empire, Villa Spot, Complex Stars and Soul City.
“We are ready. We have quality players who have a fighting spirit. Preparations have been going on very well. We have enough armoury to win the competition. I have no doubt our teams will excel. We will certainly learn from this tourney in terms of skills, tactics and execution. Due to the tournament in Marondera, we will be suspending games this weekend and resuming on March 7,” said Makoni.
Manicaland Pool League commenced their league last week with a total of 26 teams participating from 24 last year. The new teams that joined include Aces, Acid, Buffalo and Club 2904.
According to Makoni, the league is now being run professionally.
“The momentum has improved and of note and interest to us is the level of commitment, enthusiasm and discipline teams have displayed. We have set up systems to make our league professional and that has borne us fruits be it in discipline, finance, development, rules and regulations and administration. We will be concluding adoption of our amended constitution in a few weeks to the 2012 constitution in existence at the moment. This charter will aid in professionalising pool sport in Mutare for generations to come,” he said.
