The Manica Post continues to touch so many lives through its coverage on community and environmental issues and the Corporate Social Responsibility Network Zimbabwe (CSRNZ) has honoured the publication with a Top Sustainability Media House Award.

The Manica Post’s Liberty Dube also scooped an award at the ceremony that was held at a local hotel last Friday. This year’s Manicaland Corporate Social Responsibility awards ran under the theme ‘Celebrating Sustainability Excellence — Towards Achieving Vision 2030’.

The Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba, was the guest of honour.

Among the winners was borehole drilling concern, Zimbabwe Africa Trust (ZAT).

Mutare Bottling Company scooped the Champion in Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Innovation Award, while Bitumen World Private Limited won the Excellence Infrastructure Development and Covid-19 fight Award.

White Horse Inn won the Business Transformation Award, while Africa University scooped the Environmental Stewardship and top Covid-19 fight supporting organisation Award.

Golden Peacock Hotel won the top Cyclone Idai and Covid-19 fight supporting organisation Award.

Enterprising businessman and musician, Brian ‘Samaita’ Run’anga, scooped the Philanthropist of the year Award.

Dr Gwaradzimba challenged business leaders to adapt to the ever-changing business landscape.

“The scale of the challenge we face is huge and we need to drive the collective power of business. Where is the business voice on climate change? Companies can make use of ecological responsibility in two ways. They can adopt precautionary practices that attempt to secure a healthy and productive ecological environment for future generations. This forward looking action might include research into alternate technologies and waste management as well as more efficient production processes.

“The second action is eco-efficiency through better ecological practices. These actions will reduce unhealthy emissions and replace unsafe chemicals with harmless versions, thereby producing more natural products,” she said.
