A 40-YEAR-OLD Mutare man allegedly fatally stabbed his friend after accusing him of having an affair with his long time girlfriend.James Chishakweni of Chishakwe Village under Chief Zimunya’s area of Mutare appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mr Vuso Gapara facing murder charges recently.
Public prosecutor, Ms Edith Phiri told the court that on November 17 at Roscommon Estate, in Chimanimani, Chishakweni had a dispute with Biggie Chitsangu over a girlfriend. Chishakweni accused Chitsangu of having an affair with his girlfriend. “After a long argument, Chishakweni grabbed an iron bar and used it to hit Chitsangu all over the body. Chishakweni left Chitsangu lying unconsciously on the ground. He suffered deep cuts on his head, while blood was coming out of his mouth and nose. He was not able to speak,” she said.
Ms Phiri said Chitsangu was later discovered by Willard Mwasvipa who is a security supervisor at Roscommon Estate who assigned Zororo Kutekwa to go and render him assistance.
“On his way to the scene, Kutekwa met Chishakweni who confessed to have severely assaulted Chitsangu with an iron bar.
“Kutekwa took both parties to Chipinge Urban Police Station where Chishakweni was arrested.
“Kutekwa was referred to Chipinge District Hospital and was later transferred to Mutare Provincial Hospital where he died on admission on November 24.
“Post-mortem was conducted on November 25 and the doctor concluded that death was due to internal and head injuries sustained during the assault,” added Ms Phiri.
Chishakweni was ordered to apply for bail at the High Court.
