A MUTARE man is refusing to let go of his estranged wife as he is now stalking her and at times refuses to go back to his house after visiting her under the guise of seeing his son.

This emerged at the Mutare Civil Magistrates’ Court where Everjoy Tongai was applying for a protection order against Sydney Kakamba.

She claims that Kakamba who is refusing to give her a divorce token is harassing, insulting and threatening to kill her for refusing to allow him back into her life.

The estranged couple appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato, who granted the protection order in Tongai’s favour.

Tongai said she separated with Kakamba in 2020 following unending domestic disputes.

She said after moving out, her husband has been endlessly calling her, demanding to see his son.

“I later gave him the nod to come to my new place to see his son.

“I am now regretting the move as he started making midnight visits. At times, he refuses to return to his house after seeing the child.

“He is also in the habit of stalking me and whenever he sees me with another man, he insults him. He tarnishes my image, saying I am a woman of loose morals who frequents drinking outlets, yet I don’t do that,” said Tongai.

She said whenever Kakamba gets drunk, he also insults her.

“When he is drunk, he insults me, telling everyone that I am poor and that he is the one taking care of me and our son. He sporadically provides food for us, yet he goes around bragging about it. He also insults my late mother,” said Tongai.

Kakamba said Tongai was lying that they separated in 2020.

“I went to South Africa in 2020 to look for a job, and due to the Covid-19 travelling restrictions, I failed to return home for the past three years. I decided to come back this year, only to find out that my wife had moved out of our matrimonial house. She is currently staying with her sister and she told me that she has since moved on with her life,” said Kakamba.

He said he tried to engage her aunt to solve the issue, but it could not work out.

“We went to her aunt’s place where we stayed for three days trying to settle our differences, but she insisted that she is no longer interested in me,” said Kakamba.

Mr Chipato ordered Kakamba not to stalk, harass, threaten or insult Tongai.

He was also ordered not to visit her place of residence for the purposes of disturbing her peace.
