CASES of malaria have decreased in Mutare, with 128 cases being reported as from last week compared to 212 cases recorded a fortnight ago.
Mutare City Council’s acting director for health services, Mr Simeon Mashavave, confirmed the development this week.
Mr Mashavave added that the highest number of malaria cases was recorded in mid-February and stood at 303.
Manicaland has been battling with an upsurge in malaria cases as it recorded 28 deaths as of February 5 this year.
In an earlier interview, Manicaland Provincial Medical Director, Dr Matron Mafaune, confirmed that a total of 28 people had died of malaria as of February 5.
DR Mafaune said 22 336 cases had been reported in the province as of February 5.
Dr Mafaune said Chipinge District had more cases of malaria especially in the southern parts of the district. – Diamond FM/Post Reporter.
