PRIMARY and secondary schools in Mutasa central constituency, most of whose classroom blocks and environs were now in a dilapidated state, are undergoing refurbishment, thanks to losing Mutasa Central Zanu-PF parliamentary candidate Cde Jefter Sakupwanya.
A recent visit by The Manica Post to the constituency revealed that some schools benefited from furniture, paint, construction of fish ponds as well as security fence material.
Mr Weston Chigumira, the Zongoro Primary School head whose school received a major facelift through repainting of buildings, erection of a security fence as well as the ongoing construction of a fish pond, heartily thanked Cde Sakupwanya for the assistance.
“I think this is something you can see for yourselves. We were at a point where we had lost all hope. These building had become more of an eyesore. We always had problems with cattle moving in the school premises and disturbing the learning process.
“When Cde Sakupwanya came in he listened to all our problems and took no time to chip in assistance. We are really grateful to him and the most encouraging thing is that he continues to do so even after losing the recent elections. Such is the big heart he has for this area,” he said.
Zinyembe Primary School headmaster Mr Kumbirai Maswa also praised Cde Sakupwanya for his efforts in developing their school.
“We were told that Cde Sakupwanya once attended part of early primary education here. We are happy that he has seen it fit to give back to the community that nurtured him. We sincerely hope that all other successful individuals who trace their roots to this community will do the same,” he said.
In a separate interview, Cde Sakupwanya said his calling to develop Mutasa Central constituency goes beyond being elected into any public office.
He said he will continue working for the development of the constituency despite losing the July harmonised election.
“I have always said I have a soft spot for Mutasa Central Constituency. This is my home area and I have a responsibility that I give back to the kith and kin who helped me to be where I am today.
“Elections have come and gone hence this is the time to work for the people. It is time to work for the good of our communities. It is important that we fulfil the promises that we made to the people during the electioneering period,” he said.
