A CHIKANGA family is grappling to come to terms with the disappearance of their daughter-in-law who packed her belongings and left behind two minor children following an altercation with her husband.

Chengetai Janet Nyamande (23) left her matrimonial house in Chikanga on January 6 following an altercation with her husband, Solomon Mukau over romantic messages she had sent to her male friends on WhatsApp and Facebook which were discovered by her husband.

She left behind their two-year-old boy and six-year-old girl. This was confirmed by Mukau’s brother, Nigel Nyemba in a telephone interview on Tuesday afternoon.

A notice looking for her whereabouts has gone viral on the social media, while reward money of US$800 has been put on the table by the family for anyone with information leading to her  whereabouts.

The family has also filed a missing person report at Mutare Central Police Station under RRB number 3228021.

Said Nyemba: “My brother still loves his wife. It all started on January 6 when they had an altercation over Nyamande’s alleged love messages on Facebook and WhatsApp with male friends. Upon discovering the messages, my brother confronted Nyamande.

“After their altercation, my brother stormed out of the house and went away. I think my brother’s wife panicked and decided to leave in fear of the unknown. My brother is not a violent person and I think his wife thought something worse was coming. She went away and we have never heard from her since January 6.”

He said they received an anonymous call that Nyamande was in Chitungwiza and had to drive there. However, they failed to locate her after the informant’s phone was switched off. Efforts to contact Nyamande proved fruitless as she is reported to have left her phone behind.

“We are appealing to anyone with information leading to her whereabouts to contact us on 0787867750. We are willing to part with US$800 to get her back,” added Nyemba.
