MUTARE kick-boxing fans are in for a treat tomorrow (Saturday) when kick-boxers from across the county descend on the eastern border city for a tournament dubbed Night of the Champions 2.
The event comes in after yet another successful tournament in October.
The Night of the Champions 2 will be the final one this year on Manicaland’s calendar and some exciting kick-boxing action will be on display.
The prestigious event will be staged at Body Active Gym.
Kick-off time is 6pm.
Zimbabwe Kick-boxing vice-president, Knowledge Nyamhoka, who is also the event organiser said tournament is meant to expose local kick-boxers to frequent high- level action.
“We are holding a kick-boxing tournament at Body Active Gym tomorrow (Saturday). We are expecting more than 20 participants to contest in three categories — light, middle and heavyweight. We are also expecting participants from as far as Beitbridge, Harare, Masvingo, Bulawayo and our local fighters,” he said.
The fighters are expected to pay an affiliation fee of $35. Fighters who are going to come out victorious are going to get medals and trophies.
The tournament is part of Zimbabwe Kick-boxing Association’s efforts to identify and nurture talent.
Meanwhile, Knowledge Nyamhoka Jnr, who was crowned the sub-Sahara Middle Weight full contact kick-boxing champion in October at the Desert Storm International 3 in Walvis Bay, Namibia, has stepped up preparations ahead of a challenge match in Namibia.
Nyamhoka will know of his opponent early next year.
“I am more than prepared for the challenge match. I have to display what I am made of. I am waiting for the dates and opponent but I have been working very hard,” he said.
Nyamhoka also managed to defend his Desert Storm Ring Contact Champion belt.
