NEWLY formed ZIFA Eastern Region Division One cash-rich outfit Manica Diamonds FC are tipped to win the premiership ticket this season after they raided the transfer market to capture big name players on the domestic soccer scene.

The “Gem Boys” as Manica Diamonds are affectionately known, were the biggest spenders after signing premiership players before the start of the season.

They have maintained their unbeaten record.

The team signed the likes of Former Platinum FC and Mutare City Rovers wonder boy Godfrey Chisango, Moses Gutu, Nelson Tachi, Benjamin Marere, William Mapfumo, Louis Matawu, and Clemence Mukudu among others.

Former Warriors captain and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande   believes the “Gem Boys”  have what it takes  to gain promotion. The “Gem Boys” have put themselves into contention for promotion after a good run which has seen them win their seven  league matches, including a three-one goal thrashing of Melfort  last Saturday.

“So far, I consider Manica Diamonds the team of the moment. They are a team that everyone would want to watch in action. They are doing very well, they are playing good football, they have good combinations and everything is fine at the club at the moment. Obviously they are the favourites. When you look at their squad they have some of the best players.  The ‘Gem Boys’ are a threat because they have assembled a very experienced squad,” he said.

Katsande also heaped praises on Manica Diamonds’ technical team, which he referred to as full of experienced people.

Although The “Gem Boys” lost two games, with eight more  games still to play in the first half, Katsande still believes that they will be crowned champions.

“The team has a clever technical team which is full of well experienced people. It is always good to have two teams in the PSL. I am praying that they get promoted. It is going to be good for the city and the community at large. They are in the right track. With all the resources that they have they will make it to the PSL. It is only the name of the team that is new, but they have seasoned players who are good, who know how to win matches,” he added.
