NATIONAL team defender, Liberty ‘Libber’ Chakoroma, says he feels honoured after bagging three important gongs in his football career this season.

The Ngezi Platinum FC captain was voted players’ player of the year and player of the year at his club before being selected among the 11 best players in the country. In an interview on Monday, Chakoroma, said: “I am still in the furnace and not yet baked.

I have a lot to learn. Yes, I might have won three gongs this season for the first time in my life, but I am still working on improving myself. I feel I have not reached where I am supposed to be.

I feel honoured for all what I have achieved this season. I thank my coach, Tonde Ndiraya as well as my team-mates for their support,” he said.

Chakoroma grow up in the sprawling high-density suburb of Sakubva and it never crossed his mind that he will play professional football and ever play for national team.

He had previous stints with Mutare Zimbabwe National Army side, Buffaloes FC and Free State Stars of South Africa.

He has national caps for Under-20s, 23s and senior team. Chakoroma is a product of La Sakubva Academy.

His contract with Ngezi Platinum expires at the end of this month and he said he would weigh options whether to renew it or to sign for a new club.“My contract with Ngezi will run up to the end of this month. I have not yet decided on my next move.

Its either I will renew it or sign for other clubs. There are other clubs interested in me of which I cannot reveal them for now. Ngezi is one of the best teams that I can say shaped my career.

“Being appointed the captain and bagging two gongs was a great achievement for me. Also being selected among the best 11 players in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League was great. My best game at the club was when we played against FC Platinum in the Chibuku Super Cup finals. We dismissed them 3-1 and I scored the first and third goals.

“My worst game was against Caps United. We lost 0-1 and I did not perform well in that game. I hope that my 2016 performance will make me regain my jersey in the national team. As a player you always dream to play for your nation at big tournaments like AFCON. I hope I will be recalled to join the AFCON team,” he added.
