GOOD times are set to roar again for the local modelling industry after former top model Caroline Marufu-Buwu was given a license to run Miss Tourism Manicaland beauty pageant slated for June 2018.

Marufu-Buwu, who is a former Miss Zimbabwe, is the new provincial license holder and is set to superintend over provincial finals whose auditions are due between April 28 and May 5 at Zimbabwe Tourism Authority offices boardroom.

Models from across Manicaland particularly those at universities, colleges and young professionals, among others, are expected to attend the auditions.

Addressing journalists this week, Marufu-Buwu said after the two tier auditions, 20 models will be selected to compete at the provincial finals slated for Golden Peacock Villa Hotel on June 2.

“They will be screened by a panel of judges who have vast experience in the industry. During their preparation for their duties as tourism ambassadors, the contestants will visit notable tourism destinations in the eastern highlands and help market them. The queen carries several responsibilities apart from being the tourism ambassador and we believe she should be an ambassador of goodwill, a role model of faith and good works.

She added: “Miss Tourism Manicaland will play a critical role in promoting brand and market the tourism sector, transform tourism through beauty, to provide the best opportunity to establish and enhance the image and brand of the country by drawing the attention of the consumer, the tourist”.

She appealed to the corporate sector to come aboard and be part of the pageant.

Anesu Hokoyo, who hailed from Africa University represented Manicaland in the national Miss Tourism Zimbabwe beauty pageant in 2016. This year, organisers are expected to scout deeper into rural areas in search of new talent despite them working on a limited 30-day period.
