A MUTARE man dragged his first wife to court to apply for a protection order against her as he claims to be a victim of her endless bashing.

Alex Bendere also says Lucia Saiti refused to let his second wife spray some water in her matrimonial house.

The man claims that his first wife is not of the same beliefs as the rest of the family.

Bendere also claimed that Saiti is having extra marital affairs as she has moved out of their matrimonial bedroom.

However, Saiti said she moved out of their matrimonial bedroom after Bendere returned from the United Kingdom and started having an extra marital affair.

She said she feared for her health.

“We got into a relationship in 2015 before he moved to the UK. We have a child together. When he was in the UK, he would send me money which I used to build a house and buy a car that I was using.

“However, when he came back last year in March, his behaviour and attitude towards me suddenly changed and he started accusing me of having extra marital affairs.

“That is when I realised that he was up to something.

“It dawned upon me that my husband was having an extra marital affair, but I could not walk out of the marriage. I moved out of our matrimonial bedroom and started sleeping in the spare room. I didn’t understand my husband’s movements and didn’t want to risk my health,” said Saiti.

She said Bendere uses their domestic worker’s phone to call his girlfriend.

“Recently, he used our domestic worker’s phone to call his girlfriend, the one he is insisting that she should come and spray ‘muti’ in our house. How can he do that when it is also my house? If the woman wants to spray whatever it is she wants to spray, let her do it in her own house, not mine,” charged Saiti.

In response, Bendere said he wants a protection order against Saiti as he is a victim of her endless bashing.

“She has assaulted me on several occasions, accusing me of having an affair. She took my car and left it at her brother’s house. She also makes false allegations that I am abusing her. Ever since I came back from the UK, she has been threatening me,” said Bendere.

He also said the ‘muti’ in question is anointed water he was given from church as he is now a member of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC).

“I have a new wife who made me see the light. We were given water at the church to spray in our homes and I had to spray it in the house and the car. This is the why Saiti drove the car and left it at her brother’s house, fearing that I would repossess it, but it is also part of my property. She saw it fit to move out of our bedroom and as a man with sexual needs I had to look for another woman,” he said.

Bendere added: “Saiti moved out of our matrimonial bedroom to conceal her extra marital affairs. At one time I called her while still in the UK and she ignored my calls. I also called one of my employees at our farm in Norton and he said Saiti was not there. That is when I realised that she was having an affair and enjoying my hard earned money with other men.”

He pleaded with the court to stop Saiti from assaulting and insulting, as well as threatening his new wife.

“She is refusing to leave my house saying I should build her another house, but how can we stay under the same roof after she chose to move out of our bedroom? Her relatives tried to reason with her, but she remained adamant,” said Bendere. Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato who presided over the matter granted the protection order in Bendere’s favour.

The order bars Saiti from harassing, intimidating, assaulting and insulting Bendere and is valid for five years.
