MUTASA born and bred businessman and Herentals College chief executive officer, Mr Innocent Benza, did the province proud after he scooped the prestigious top business and academic leader of the year awards.

The Zimbabwe Leadership Awards Council-organised ceremony was held in Harare on Monday and Mr Benza’s Herentals Group of Colleges and Schools also scooped two gongs during the occasion.

Herentals scooped the Zimbabwe top leadership excellence academic institute of the year and Zimbabwe top college of the year awards respectively. Herentals has more than 30 branches nationwide and among them are private schools and colleges that offer professional courses. It also has a branch in Mutare and is the only college which provides transport to its students.

Besides investing in education, Mr Benza’s company has interests in the timber industry where it employees hundreds of people in Mutasa District. The company has also sponsored a number of income generating projects for people of Mutasa Central, with youths being the most beneficiaries.

Herentals College management committee member, Mr Kudakwashe Remba, said the awards were a great honour for the organisation.

“It shows that our efforts in educating the nation are being recognised. We feel honoured and humbled to receive such awards at a time when Government is resuscitating the education sector and we are playing our part to complement such efforts.

“We commit ourselves to continue providing our students with quality education, excellence and integrity, as well as trying to satisfy the needs and expectations of our stakeholders,” said Mr Remba.

They are spread across various categories and industry domains.

“ZILA distinguishes and honours leaders who have contributed and shaped the Zimbabwean economy and are visionaries behind today’s outstanding businesses and organisations.
