The Manicaland Under-15 girls gold winners at secondary school level, Manzvire Secondary School, are appealing for donations in cash and kind to fulfil their dream of representing Manicaland province at national level in Harare on 17 and 18 July, 2014. Manzvire Secondary School is 65 kilometres from Tanganda along the Tanganda-Beitbridge road.

It is a day school and most of the students face challenges in paying school fees; despite that, the children and coaching staff are eager to leave a lasting impression on the national stage.

On their way to the provincial finals, the unfashionable team powered past district sports giants Gaza and Mutema high schools.
At the provincial finals held at Gunura Secondary School in Buhera district, the team made light work of Regina Coeli, Mhakwe and Gunura teams to book a berth to the finals where it met Zurura, who had topped group B. Manzvire was too hot for Zurura, culminating in a 4-2 score-line in favour of the Chipinge NASH champions.

The head in charge of handball for Chipinge, Mr Gondawakuru, who is the acting head of Manzvire, expressed satisfaction at the performance of the team and paid tribute to Pumulani Dube, the head coach, Runmore Gabaza, the sports director, and the entire teaching staff for putting Manzvire on the sports map.

Asked how a minnow was able to upstage giants, the soft-spoken Pumulani Dube attributed the success to all-year training that resulted in the players gelling and understand the technical part of the game. Pumulani Dube is a graduate in Sports Science and Coaching from NUST.
He said the local community’s hand is visible in the success of the team so far.

However, there is need for the school to cater for tracksuits and footwear, transport and feeding at the national finals.
That is where challenges are discernible.

With that in mind, the school’s sports director, Runmore Gabaza is passionately appealing to the corporate world and individuals in Manicaland and beyond to chip in  cash or kind to make the team’s stay in Harare comfortable.

Those who are willing to be part of this noble initiative to empower the girl child can do so by contacting Runmore Gabaza on 0776894591 or Precious Matambanadzo (Treasurer) on 0775647686 or Pumulani Dube on 0775852741.
Mount Selinda High School 15 and under boys qualified for the national final too.

Manzvire is in the low-veld while Mount Selinda is in the highlands area of Chipinge district.
