THREE security guards under Securico Security Services have been arrested and were last Friday dragged to court in connection with the theft of U$60 390 at Tongogara Refugee Camp in Chipinge.
The three are Admit Kuora, Tafadzwa Kwenda and Eric Ruuswa.
They appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mrs Elizabeth Hanzi, facing theft charges as defined in Section 113 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.
However, their case could not proceed on December 31 after the police applied for a warrant for further detention pending investigations.
Investigation officer, Assistant Inspector Hosea Godibha had told the court that they wanted to be issued with a warrant for further detention up to January 3, 2022.
“We are applying for further detention of the three accused persons because we need to record statements from the outstanding witnesses. Investigators also want to proceed to Harare to conduct searches at the accused persons’ place of residence so that we recover the stolen property,” said Assistant Inspector Godibha.
The three suspects were finally released on bail on Monday after the police had completed investigations into the matter.
They will be back in the dock on January 10.
Circumstances are that three security guards who were superintending over the refugees monthly allowances parked their cash-in-transit motor vehicle for the night on the entrance of the room they had been authorised to use.
The three suspects opened the safe and stole two trunk boxes loaded with US$60 360 cash, and vanished from the scene.
