A Dangamvura male teenager stands accused of being intimate with other men in his grandmother’s bedroom. Nineteen-year-old Tafadzwa Maswa’s family says he was introduced to homosexuality by his friends due to the love of money.

Speaking to The Weekender, Gogo Flora Maswa said her grandson has defiled her matrimonial bed.

“I took Tafadzwa in after his mother kicked him out over this homosexuality issue. She had caught him red-handed in the act. When I heard that he had nowhere to go, I took him in. I dismissed the issue as I thought it was a lie.

“It later turned out that I was the fool because just last week when I was away, my son told me that Tafadzwa had been intimate with another man on my bed. They used my condoms that were in my bedroom. I thought my son was lying, but when I checked in the cabinet where I store my condoms, some were missing,” said the elderly woman.

She said Tafadzwa’s love for female purses and underwear had baffled her when he started staying with her, but she just brushed it off after he told her that it was normal in this era.

“He wears ladies’ panties and carries handbags when going out. I said his behaviour was suspicious but he told me that it was common these days. He even said the bags and underwear were all masculine. Maybe it is my fault that I took him in, but he is my grandson and I had no other choice,” bemoaned Gogo Maswa.

In an interview, Tafadzwa’s mother, Prisca Sunguro cried her heart out.

She said she kicked Tafadzwa out of her house due to his sexual orientation.

She said she has lost all dignity in the community because of her son’s behaviour.

Sunguro said it all started when Tafadzwa finished writing his Ordinary Level examinations.

“Back then, Tafadzwa was a good child and people envied me for being his mother. However, everything took a nasty turn when my son started associating with homosexual friends, particularly one who is well-known in this area.

“He would get money from his homosexual activities and help me in buying groceries. I had no idea that it was dirty money. I thought the money was coming from his salon, yet it was coming from his boyfriends. I approached his close friend and told him to stay away from my son, but it fell on deaf ears. He told me to go and report him to the police,” said Sunguro.

She said at one time she logged into her son’s Facebook account “by mistake”.

“I was shocked. Men were chatting with him in his inbox. I still cannot believe it. He was sending them nude pictures and in some pictures, he was putting on wigs. I felt like dying,” said Sunguro.

Approached for comment, Tafadzwa refused to entertain the media.

“I do not have anything to say to you guys. I cannot tell you about our association,” he said without elaborating on what kind of association he was referring to.

Tafadzwa’s uncle, Shepherd Mumba confirmed that he caught him with an unidentified man in his grandmother’s bedroom.

“I was seated in the lounge and I got suspicious when the two went into my mother’s bedroom. I got up and saw them in the act and when mother came back, I spilled the beans. Tafadzwa did not even bother to deny it,” said Mumba.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo said same-sex sexual activity is prohibited under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

He said if the case is reported, parties involved will be arrested and prosecuted.

“It is the duty of every citizen to report such matters to the nearest police station as such offences are a crime against the society’s norms and values. Such crimes are defined as both normative and jurisdictive, which means they can be referred to court,” said Inspector Muzondo.
