LEADING Eastern Highlands hospitality industry player — Golden Peacock Hotel — is geared to exploit, not only the serene environs of the hotel, but also the numerous tourism products abound in the region to promote domestic tourism.

With 137 rooms, six big conference rooms that have a total holding capacity of 1 200 guests and a car park that accommodates 200 cars, Golden Peacock can easily pass for the biggest player in the industry in Manicaland.

In an interview, new Golden Peacock Villa Hotel general manager, Mr Adonis Mutigwe, who is in his 19th year in the hospitality industry after serving in different capacities within some of the country’s major brands such as Wimpy, Cresta and Holiday Inn, said he was ready for the challenge.

Together with the new food and beverages manager, Mr Sasha Ray Munyanyi, Mr Mutigwe is joining the youthful management team at Golden Peacock Villa Hotel.

Mr Mutigwe said: “Of late, the hotel has been viewed mainly as a conferencing facility, but we want to build local tourism and exploit on the products Eastern Highlands offers.

“We want to increase our participation in local activities so that in return even locals will free to patronise the hotel.
“We also want to grow these conferencing facilities. There is more that can be done to this conferencing side to ensure that there is more than just the business side of things. On site, we have a big bar that can be used optimally to promote local tourism.

“We believe that there is much more that can be done besides the hotel services itself. On the business aspect, we also want to be a very active player in things that happen around us.

“Over and above the business initiatives, but in the same direction of community engagement, we want to partner local stakeholders like the Ministry of Health and Child Care as well as schools through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education on a number of initiatives to grow the Golden Peacock brand.”

Mr Mutigwe bemoaned the effects of Covid-19 on the hospitality industry and urged citizens to continue honouring Covid-19 prevention protocols.

“The truth is that Covid-19 is real. Covid-19 kills, and we have to take it seriously. This is the reason why we want to partner the Ministry of Health and Child Care to help in the fight against this pandemic.

“In that regard, we are hoping to open a vaccination centre here. I am happy to announce that we one are of the few players in the industry with a 100 percent vaccination rate,” he said.

A cocktail to welcome the new members of the Golden Peacock Villa Hotel family will be held tonight.

“The cocktail is a small do for our corporate partners where we hope to put faces to the names as well as mix and mingle in a relaxed environment. It is a get together meant to know each other.

“It is the brainchild of the management after realising the need to introduce new members of the team, including myself, to our everyday partners and stakeholders around Manicaland,” said Mr Mutigwe.
