ONE of Zimbabwe’s finest musicians, Gemma Griffiths, is set to take her much-hyped nationwide tour to the eastern border city of Mutare where she is set to officially present her new album, ‘A Girl from Harare’.
The award-winning silky-voiced diva will be supported by Zim’s current music hot property, Nutty O, as well as local surprise artistes in a potentially-explosive gig slated for Golden Peacock today (Friday). Organisers say the countrywide tour targeting six cities has gone on well so far.
The tour kicked off in Victoria Falls in April before Gemma travelled to Bulawayo where she put up a scintillating performance on a stage shared with Holy Ten, DJ Kingher, Asaph and Blac, among others.
She has also been to Kwekwe and will end the tour with a solo performance in Gweru.
“It has been a wonderful experience. The tour has been very successful and I am glad that we have taken time to market our new project and meet our fans dotted across the country. This is the first of its kind and we are happy that our fans are loving every bit of our date with them.
“We are also in a merrymaking mood. Some revellers have been singing alone to our old and new projects. The whole team is ready for our Mutare show. We are ready to dish out the new project to greatly cherished fans,” said Gemma, speaking through her handlers.
The new album contains fine tracks such as ‘Ava’, ‘City Life’, ‘Don’t Worry’, ‘Down’, ‘Just my luck’, ‘Kwale’ and ‘Weather’.
The artiste carved a niche for herself through renditions of popular songs that she fluently presents in Shona.
These include top-drawer ‘Musarova Bigman’ as well as her collaboration with veteran chanter, Winky D, ‘MuGarden’.
The song reached more than a million views on You Tube within a fortnight and gained regional and international applause.
She has also done danceable and sing-along songs such as ‘Maita Basa Baba’, ‘Ndinewe’, ‘Don’t Worry’ and ‘One Call Away’.
