A FISHING expedition ended tragically for a 20-year old who slipped and drowned in Save River last Saturday.

Efforts by a fellow fisherman, Richard Sithole (80), and other villagers to rescue the late Nhamo Mungudyi proved fruitless.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident which happened in Mahachi Village in Chief Garahwa’s area.

“Mungudyi went for fishing with Sithole when he slipped into the river and drowned. Sithole alerted other villagers and conducted a search. His body was later retrieved from the river,” said Inspector Chananda.

Meanwhile, a Chipinge villager died instantly after logs of timber he was offloading from a truck fell on him.

“Mushateganda, Thomas Mhlanga (32), Wilbert Mundeta (24) and Devine Sithole as well as other villagers were offloading logs of timber from a UD Truck at Chako Business Centre when the logs crashed the former to death. No foul play is suspected,” said Inspector Chananda.
