FOUR CHIPINGE men were thrown behind bars for allegedly assaulting and kidnapping a 24-year-old man from Chief Garahwa’s area, accusing him of stealing their cattle. Douglas Mlambo (19), Knowledge Mapwanya (19), Phillipian Garikai (30) from Mwoyowachena Village under Chief Garahwa and David Mlambo (17) of Matsuka Village also under Chief Garahwa are alleged to have kidnapped and assaulted Martin Ndlovu.

Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the incident which occurred on August 14 at around 7am.
He urged people not to take the law into their hands and approach the police whenever they have misunderstandings.
“It is alleged that on the day in question, the four accused persons teamed up and proceeded to Ndlovu’s house.

“Upon arrival, Douglas accused Ndlovu of stealing his seven beasts, while Mapwanya accused him of stealing two, respectively.
“The four forcibly took Ndlovu to David’s homestead in Matsupa Village where they assaulted him under his feet using wooden sticks before locking him up in a small room for about 48 hours.

“They were forcing him to admit that he had stolen the cattle,” said Asst Insp Chananda.
“The complainant’s brother-in law, Edson Chapwanya (48) discovered what had transpired on August 15 at around 7pm and made a report at Chisumbanje Police Station.
“Police attended the scene and arrested Douglas, Mapwanya, Garikai and David, but the wooden sticks that were used to assault Ndlovu were not recovered.

“Ndlovu was referred to St Peter’s Mission Hospital for treatment since he had sustained some injuries,” he said.
