FORMER Makoni West legislator, Mr Webber Chinyadza’s ex-wife, Sheila Ruponga, was arrested and brought before the courts facing three counts of stock theft.

Ruponga (38) of House Number 258, Chimurenga Road, Rusape, together with her two alleged accomplices, Parminus Matewa (35) of Kanyangira Village and Paul Dhiwendi (43) of House Number 2911, Magamba suburb, Rusape who are represented by Mr Munyaradzi Manyengavana Chiwanza and Partners were granted $100 bail each.

Rusape magistrate, Mrs Elizabeth Hanzi, did not ask the accused persons to plead and adjourned the matter to April 6 for trial.

State prosecutor, Ms Event Dhliwayo, told the court that Matewa and Dhiwendi would steal cattle during the night and drove them to Ruponga’s Chiduku homestead where they would secure the cattle in her kraal while looking for buyers.

“On March 9, Matewa and Dhiwendi went to the kraals of Samuel Chamunorwa, Fobanayi Fundisayi and Jacob Chin’ono and stole a stole a best from each and tied them in the bush.

At around 11pm, the two advised Ruponga who hired Douglas Matsvaire’s truck, Registration Number AAT 1038 and proceded to Village 8, Romsely, Nyazura where they loaded the stolen cattle. They drove to Ruponga’s homestead in Chiduku where they secured the beasts in the kraal waiting for a buyer. Matsvaire suspected that the cattle had been stolen and phoned CID Rusape who confirmed that the cattle had been stolen. Police in Nyazura made a follow-up together with three complainants and recovered the three stolen beasts still in Ruponga’s kraal.

“The value of the stolen cattle is $1 450 and everything was recovered,” said Ms Dhliwayo.
