WITH the national lockdown extended last week, Post Sport caught up some football personalities that hail from Manicaland to find out what they are up to.

Joseph “Shabba” Takaringofa (CAPS United assistant coach)

At first it was difficult to change my daily routines but I have since adjusted. Doing my job during the lockdown has not been easy but my hope is that the players are professional enough to follow their programmes.

Every day we get feedback from the club’s fitness trainer, sometimes through videos, for assessments and progress reviews and then we discuss that as the technical team. We are always in constant touch.

For my part, I wake up at 4:30am every day, except for Sundays, and do physical exercises for one and a half hours, during which my children join me. Thereafter, I stay indoors for the remainder of the day, researching more on the game.

I always consume loads of football material through videos or reading. This challenges me to improve on the technical and tactical aspects of the sport.

Liberty Chakoroma (Chicken Inn utility player)

Since most of my time is now being spent at home, in the morning I religiously do a 45-minute work-out before cooling down under a shower. For the greater part of the day I get to watch movies with my family. At 5:30pm in the evening, I train by myself for half an hour. Covid-19 is real and killing people out there, we have to stay at home and stick together in our fight against the disease if we are to overcome it. I am here at my club base in Bulawayo and all is well with me and those in my circle.

Lyndon Kanyemba (Mutare City Rovers team manager)

We are battling this pandemic from the frontline because my job as a sewage treatment superintendent with the Mutare City Council falls within the essential services providers’ bracket. As such, I am at work and reporting for duty while also keeping abreast with global developments pertaining to the game and its fate this season. Meanwhile, we have to remember to always wash our hands under running water.

Phenias Bamusi (CAPS United winger)

I was in camp with the Warriors, preparing for Chan qualifiers, when the lockdown was declared and we had to break up. This is the best time for me to get together with my parents and I am with them in Mutare right now. I am always staying indoors and training at home, unless there are pressing matters that require my urgent attention. Players at our club have also been given custom-made training schedules and we are using and following these in consultation with the coaches.

Nyasha Chintuli (Ngezi Platinum Stars attacker)

The most important thing at this moment is to keep safe by practising physical distancing. We should follow Government directives as well as the measures recommended by the World Health Organisation. I am doing exactly that during this period. I have been mixing training with playing with my three kids at home and we are safe and sound in this haven.

Blessing Gumiso (Former Highlanders kingpin)

The Sakubva-bred footballer has been posting on social media videos of himself doing soccer drills in his backyard.
