The Minister of State For Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba has urged institutions of higher learning to focus on entrepreneurship in their training as it the key to the nation’s achievement of a middle income economy by the year 2030.
Speaking during her inaugural visit to Manicaland State University on Tuesday, Dr Gwaradzimba said the university had a significant role to play in ensuring that the province produced innovative employers who were ready to provide solutions to the nation’s economic challenges.
“The key to Zimbabwe’s modernisation is entrepreneurship. Our students should be trained how to manipulate the environment to survive instead of leaving the country as soon as they graduate.
Zimbabwe cannot be a training ground for other countries,” she said.
“This is the only State University in the province, in line with government policy to ensure that university education is accessible to every Zimbabwean as we aim to achieve a middle income economy by the year 2030. It is your duty to ensure that this institution in a hub of innovation. If its economic potential is tapped into, the university will provide world class standards which will ultimately improve the GDP of the province,” said the Minister.
