A family in Westlea, Mutare, has been left homeless after their house caught fire last Thursday.
The owner of the property was at work while her children were home alone when the fire broke out.
The fire spread to all the rooms and almost all the property was destroyed.
Only a few things from the lounge, some clothes and one bed were salvaged from the inferno.
The cause of the inferno is yet to be established.
Speaking to The Manica Post, sister to the owner of the house, Ms Martha Muchipisi said the fire broke out around lunchtime on Thursday.
“I was home sleeping when the fire broke out. The kids rushed to my house. I stay two houses away from this house. The children said the house is on fire and it had started as they were watching TV. There were four children in the house and all of them are safe at my house. They are traumatised,” said Ms Muchipisi.
“We do not know what caused the fire. I asked the kids if the electric or gas stove was on but they said they were not cooking. Apparently, the gas tank is one of the things that was saved from the fire. The kids were watching television when the fire started,” said Ms Muchipisi.
Ms Muchipisi said she is glad the children managed to leave the house without sustaining any injuries.
