A 43-YEAR-OLD Nyanyadzi man will spend the next 30 years in prison for raping his 12-year-old daughter on three separate occasions.

The man from Mutsiyo Village under Chief Muusha’s area was convicted by Mutare regional magistrate Mrs Loyce Mukunyadzi, who sentenced him to 45 years in jail.

However, 15 years were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.

Ms Tinashe Katsiru prosecuted.

She told the court that on an unknown date in February, Musimwa entered into his daughter’s bedroom naked.

He went to where his daughter was sleeping with her two siblings and dragged her to the opposite side of the bed.

“He raped her once and threatened to assault her as she was yelling in pain.

“After raping the daughter, the man grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his daughter if she disclosed the incident to anyone,” said Ms Katsiru.

“In the second incident, the man is said to have arrived home at around 10pm on March 4.

“He was drunk and his wife had gone to Bocha for a church gathering. He stopped her daughter from sleeping in her mother’s room.

“Instead, he forced her and the other two children to sleep in his bedroom.

“When the other two children were asleep, Musimwa dragged his daughter to his bed and raped her.

“He gagged the child’s mouth while raping her. He further threatened her with more harm if she disclosed the rape.

“After that he escorted his daughter outside to relieve herself while naked. He tried to force her back into the bedroom, but the girl escaped and sought refuge at their neighbour’s homestead.

“The neighbour observed that the girl was semi-naked and had semen on her private parts. She suspected that she had been sexually abused,” said Ms Katsiru.

She added: “The following day, the man stopped his daughter from sleeping in her mother’s room and raped her again. The matter only came to light after the neighbour alerted the girl’s mother upon her return from church that her daughter had been sexually abused. The neighbour advised the girl’s mother to make a police report.”

Mrs Mukunyadzi referred to Musimwa as a chicken that eats its own eggs and said he deserved to stay away from the community for a long time.
