A WRANGLE over the estate of a deceased person turned tragic when two Nyanga family members ran amok and fatally assaulted a relative over a residential stand.

Golden Sandi (35) and Nicholas Nyadombo (26), both from Sanyamaropa Village under Chief Saunyama, were last week arraigned before Nyanga magistrate Mrs Gloria Takundwa facing murder charges. They were asked not to plead and were advised to apply for bail at the High Court in Harare since they were facing a Third Schedule offence.

Mr Kelvin Mufute prosecuted.

The court heard that on August 14, the suspects went to Tendai Nyadombo’s homestead and questioned him on why he was residing at their late father’s stand.

“An argument arose resulting in the two suspects attacking Tendai with bricks. He sustained multiple head injuries and was ferried to Regina Coeli Mission Hospital where he was immediately transferred to Nyanga District Hospital,” said Mr Mufute.

He died two days later from the injuries. Results of the post-mortem will be produced in court as evidence.

Golden and Nicholas will be back in court today for routine remand.

In an unrelated case, a jilted Form Four pupil at Tsanzaguru High School in Rusape died after drinking poison after her boyfriend who had impregnated her denied responsibility and fled to South Africa.

The 16-year-old orphan died on August 19 at Rusape General Hospital’s maternity ward where she had been admitted on August 18 after drinking the poison.

Sources close to the girl said she was staying with a female teacher who had offered to take care of her following the death of her parents.

The teacher’s brother allegedly took advantage of the girl’s situation to sexually abuse her until she fell pregnant.

Rusape District police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Muzondiwa Clean confirmed the incident, saying the juvenile took her life after her guardian questioned her on the pregnancy.

“On August 18 at around 11am, Monate Ganya drank poison after her guardian, Mupiwa Mbofana, discovered that she was pregnant and confronted her wanting to know who had impregnated her.

“She then drank poison and was rushed to Rusape General Hospital. She died on August 19. No foul play is suspected.

“As police, we urge members of the public to seek professional counselling and advice from friends and relatives when facing challenges. We do not encourage people to kill themselves especially on issues that can be resolved amicably. Being pregnant is not a curse or the end of the world,” said Asst Insp Clean.
