When the picture of a Willard Katsande donning a head wrap, a red jacket (without a shirt inside) and a pair of black joggers was posted online last week, social media went ablaze as the ‘fashion police’ mocked the former Warriors captain’s dress code.

Katsande, whose football career started in the eastern border city of Mutare, got tongues wagging as head wraps are worn by women.

But Katsande defended his dress code.

“I am Willard Katsande and no one really understands my taste of fashion. It might sound arrogant, but I am the top dog with regards to fashion. I believe in myself and my taste of fashion. Those who don’t understand my fashion sense should research more around real fashion trends.

“If international male celebrities dress like that, no one talks. Now that it is Willard Katsande, everyone wants to say something. It has always been like that, I am used to it. I hope with time they will get to understand my fashion sense.”

Katsande is not the first football star to be criticised for his fashion taste.

At one point, opinions were divided when Juventus star striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, who is known for his penchant for fashion and style, once had ‘kodak moments’ while wearing sneakers and a suit.

Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs top man, Khama Billiat, also went through the same ordeal after doing a photo-shoot while donning a suit and a Dolce & Gabbana Superking pair of sneakers worth 675 pounds.
