A 35-YEAR-OLD man recently reportedly went berserk and fatally stoned his mother in a gruesome murder that has left Nyanga residents shell-shocked.

Gladys Mupiwa’s body was found lying in a pool of blood while her face was badly deformed after her son, Andrew Mupiwa, mercilessly attacked her with stones.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident which happened in Tsatse Village in Chief Tangwena’s area.

“Ms Maponde’s other son, Tapiwa visited his mother’s homestead on that fateful day and as he drew closer, he saw Andrew pushing their mother in a wheelbarrow.

“Ms Maponde gave Tapiwa a signal not to come close and he did not take heed. He followed the two from behind. Ms Maponde and Andrew went inside the kitchen,” said Insp Luxson Chananda.

He said Tapiwa remained outside for some time and sensing danger, he went to call his other brother, Vitalis.

“They proceeded to their mother’s kitchen to check what was happening. When they entered the kitchen, they realised that their mother was dead. Her badly injured body was lying in a pool of blood.

‘‘They alerted neighbours as well as the police who attended the scene and arrested Andrew,” said Inspector Chananda.
In another incident, a Rusape woman brutally assaulted her son for messing his pants.

He died four days after the incident.

Definite Mudewairi (23) of Village A, Nyahanga in Headlands was arrested and appeared on Tuesday before Rusape magistrate, Mr Gift Manyika.

Mudewairi was not asked to plead.

Mr Manyika remanded Mudewairi in custody and advised her to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor, Mrs Melissa Saidi said Mudewairi was livid after her son, Knowledge Chedondo, whose age was not given, messed his pants.

She assaulted him using tree switches.

Despite sustaining injuries on his body, Mudewairi did not seek medical assistance for her son.

She only took him to hospital four days later when his condition deteriorated.

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“On August 10, Mudewairi was livid after Knowledge messed his pants. She took a switch from a tree and assaulted Knowledge all over the body.

“Knowledge sustained injuries all over the body. He was not referred to hospital. On August 14, Knowledge’s health deteriorated and Mudewairi decided to take him to Rusape General Hospital, but he passed away on their way to the hospital. Mudewairi then took Knowledge’s body to Bvekerwa village for burial.

“Mudewairi was seen by witnesses assaulting Knowledge with a switch as well as insulting him,” said Mrs Saidi.

Mudewairi is expected back in court on September 1 for routine remand.

Meanwhile, three brothers from Marange were arrested for allegedly taking turns to fatally assault their aging father with switches after the latter had rebuked them for being disrespectful.

Godfrey, Mike and Ahashi Maponde were allegedly infuriated by their father, Mr Josphat Maponde (62)’s assertion that they were irresponsible and disrespectful.

The trio allegedly ganged up and confronted Mr Maponde.

“On that fatefully day, Mr Maponde rebuked his three children for being irresponsible and disrespectful. Mr Maponde picked up stones and threatening to attack his three sons.

“They retaliated and attacked him with switches. They took turns to assault him all over the body until he became unconscious.

‘‘Mr Maponde sustained serious fractures and died instantly. Neighbours who witnessed the drama alerted the police who attended the scene and arrested the trio,” said Insp Chananda.
