ELECTRICITY outages are now a thing of the past for the Kondo community in Chipinge following the installation of a new transformer by Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA).

With a capacity of 350kv, the new transformer is three times bigger than the previous one and generates more power.

The development will provide relief to the local community as people were enduring intermittent power supplies and frequent outages.

A local businessman, Mr Oliver Chikumba, said the erratic electricity supplies had adverse effects and were crippling their operations.

“We are happy with this development and are grateful to ZESA for addressing our plight. Improved electricity supply comes with many benefits and it will also impact positively on the locals’ lives and our businesses,” said Mr Chikumba.

Government is working on establishing a solar power plant in Middle Sabi to improve power supply in the area.

This is part of initiatives to scale up expansion of alternative sources and the generation capacity on the national grid to ensure access to adequate and reliable electricity, which is fundamental for development.
