ACTOR and social media personality, Admire Mushambi, popularly known as Mhosva or Mama Vee, has paid tribute to his legion of fans for allowing him to realise his dreams.

The 24-year-old Mutare-born comedian is basking in glory after scooping the coveted outstanding social media skits award at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) recently held in Bulawayo.

Mama Vee came out ahead of equally-deserving social media entertainers, Kudzanai Chengedza, fondly known as Mbuya vaPiyasoni, and Mai Kirifodhi, whose real name is Theophilus Chigumira.

As if that is not enough, Mama Vee was recently honoured by video sharing website, YouTube, after reaching subcribers, making him one of the most followed comedians on social media.

In an interview, Mama Vee said he did not travel to the awards ceremony in Bulawayo as he did not expect to win.

“It came as a surprise. I did not expect to win and that is why I did not travel to Bulawayo. I am elated. The development came after YouTube also honoured me for reaching the 100 000 subscribers mark. This is not a joke. I thank God, my mother and colleagues for making this dream come true. It has not been an easy ride, but God is seeing me through. The accolade makes me feel motivated to work even harder,” said Mama Vee.

The comedian hails from Bocha, Marange, and has made a great impact in the entertainment industry, thanks to his comic antics as well as his wittiness and creativeness.

His strong Bocha dialect has also endeared him with thousands of followers.

Mama Vee’s character, where he acts as a well-built and humorous woman who is domineering in most skits, has been his major trump card to glory.

It seems acting as a woman has paid off for the lanky actor.

Mama Vee said he loves acting as a woman, adding that it is some form of art.

“I am a strategist. I noticed what was missing in this comedy industry and came up with the idea of acting as a woman. I managed to do what people feared to do, which is acting as a woman, dressed like one,” he said.

Mama Vee did his primary education at Zhawari Primary School in Marange, before proceeding to Gwirindindi and later Dangamvura High Schools.

He proceeded to Kwekwe Polytechnic to study electrical power engineering.

Mama Vee ventured into comedy in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdowns while in South Africa.

He later became an established brand through tackling day-to-day social issues.
