NO one is expecting favours from the other in both the singles and the doubles competitions in the ongoing Mutare Pool League (MPL) 2022 season as competition tightens especially among the top three clubs on the table.

Snippers are sitting precariously on the summit of the table, with second placed Villa breathing down the log leader’s neck.

After 11 rounds of league matches, Villa have amassed 27 points, just one behind Dangamvura-based Snippers, but fellow Dangamvura side, Villa has a game in hand whose result might see them dislodging the current log leaders.

Rozvie Empire are in third position after also amassing 27 points.

Dark horses in the race, Acid, who regained lost pride when they walloped Giantz 8-2 on Sunday after their humiliating 10-2 drubbing during the previous round of league matches at the hands of mid-table side Beloepass, have now amassed 23 points, while Soul City have 21 points.

MPL chairman, Peter Mkwananzi said: “In MPL, competition is high. We do not have outright winners in the early stages of the competition like in the past where we had clubs that would run away with it. Currently, we have seven clubs that can be talked about as teams that are competing for the title which is healthy for the league.”

A sorry state of affairs is prevailing at the bottom part of the table where five teams – Fantasy, Buffalo, Zim Legends, Boss Kader and The Base – are yet to get to double digit tally.

Basement side, The Base have no point to show for their efforts in the last 11 rounds of league matches, while weeping boys, Boss Kader only have five points.

The not-so-legendary Zim Legends are tied at eight points together with unfrightening Buffalo.

Fantasy, who are currently fantasising about crossing the double digit tally this Easter holiday, have so far amassed nine points only.
