DRAGGING her abusive husband to court for a protection order, ended with a Mutare woman getting more than what she had bargained for as she was divorced during the court session.

The couple appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato recently, with the woman complaining of endless physical and emotional abuses from her husband.

Confidence Kusina said her husband, Godknows Kadimbwa was in the habit of assaulting her for no apparent reason and at times framed stories of things she would not have done.

Kusina said her husband assaulted her thrice in November, accusing her of stealing from him and that she is a rumour monger.

Kusina also told the court that her husband does not allow her to do her motherly duties in the family.

“He is in the habit of assaulting me as well as framing me for things that I would not have done. He does not allow me to do my motherly duties in the family,” said Kusina.

Kadimbwa did not dispute what Kusina had presented before the court, and said he assaults his wife for not respecting and listening to him.

He also said assaulting her was the only way to make her understand as she does not listen to him.

Kusina said they have been married for six months and her husband has reduced her to his punching bag.

She said she no longer had feelings for him.

Kadimbwa said when he went for work in Chimanimani, he left his wife home and told her to slaughter one chicken, but when he returned after three days she had slaughtered three chickens instead.

“I told her to slaughter a single chicken, but she proceeded to slaughter two more chickens. Before I left for Chimanimani, I asked her to attend a church service, but she never set foot at church.

“When I returned from Chimanimani, my wife used the other door to get out of the house when she realised that I was back. When I entered the house, I saw some condoms under the pillow. This was after she had denied me my conjugal rights before I left for Chimanimani.

“Prior to my departure, we had also visited a local clinic where we were diagnosed with an STI. I strongly believe that my wife is the source of the STI as I was not seeing anyone,” said Kadimbwa.

Kusina denied the allegations, saying her husband smokes weed and also drinks a lot of beer.

“He will be high on drugs most of the time. He will be confused most of the times. When he returned home from Chimanimani, I never left the house or ran away from him. He assaulted me, but no condoms were found in the house as he is claiming,” said Kusina.

Kadimbwa said he was tired of staying with Kusina as she is thick-headed.

He said he was divorcing her and should pack all her belongings soon after the court session.

However, Mr Chipato granted Kusina the protection order which is valid for five years.
