THE Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (Pvt) Ltd will today (Friday) host an all-stakeholder diamond security conference in Mutare that will help craft shared ways to secure the national resource in compliance with international set standards.

In an interview on Wednesday, ZCDC chief executive officer, Dr Moris Mpofu, said diamond product security was a key element in ensuring Kimberly Process Certification Scheme compliance.

“This conference will bring together all stakeholders who have a part to play in ensuring the security of our diamonds in Chiadzwa. This also includes various civic groups whose input to this conference will be of paramount importance in diamond security management,” he said.
“The thrust of the conference is to ensure that the stakeholders come up with common solutions in safeguarding the national resource.”

“The hosting of the conference is in line with ZCDC social responsibility drive of always responding to concerns from the communities and being accountable on how we mine the precious mineral for the country and ensure national development”

Dr Mpofu said civic groups must come up with recommendations and present them on how best they think we should manage the security of our diamonds.

“We really want to work together and sing from the same hymn book. This only happens if we sit together, get everyone’s view on board and map a shared way forward. Zimbabwe is already KPC compliant and we are doing all this to safeguard that position and ensure that we operate in accordance with prescribed best standards.

“Civic groups must not always complain but should come forward and help craft ways that will help the country secure the diamonds. We really need to sit down and chart the way forward,” he said.
