A NATIONAL Eye Security company guard stationed at the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company in Chiadzwa was recently arrested on allegations of letting in illegal diamond panners into the fields after receiving bribes. Tinashe Machemedze appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Yeukai Chogodora on bribery charges as defined in Section 170(1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9;23

He was remanded out of custody on $70 bail awaiting trial on August 25.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

It is alleged that on August 15 at around 9am, Machemedze who was on duty at Portal B accepted $220 bribe money and two cellphones from illegal diamond panners as an inducement to let them in.

The matter came to light after the illegal diamond panners were summoned and interviewed by the company’s security superintendent resulting in the recovery of the cellphones and money at the accused’s home.
