A MUTARE man has flatly refused to do family rituals to welcome his second born daughter into his clan as he claims that the child might not he his.

He is demanding DNA tests first.

At three years old, the child is failing to crawl or walk; and her mother attributes this to the family rituals that have been put on hold.

This emerged at the Mutare Civil Court where Fidelis Chazhika was applying for a protection order against his ex-girlfriend, Rebecca Majana.

Mr Xavier Chipato presided over the matter.

Chazhika said Majana is in the habit of insulting, threatening and harassing him despite him paying maintenance for his children.

“I have been consistently paying maintenance for my two children, but she insults me using profane words. She wants to provoke me so that I assault her and then she files for domestic violence charges against me,” said Chazhika.

He said the previous week when they had attended another court hearing for maintenance review, Majana harassed him all the way from the Mutare Magistrate’s Court to Meikles Park.

“She insulted me in front of my children. We have two children together, although l doubt the paternity of the other one,” said Chazhika.

Majana said she did not insult him, but asked him to perform the family rituals for their child.

“I do not sleep at night as the child is always crying. She is not moving to normal stages like other babies.

‘‘This happened to the other child until he performed a family ritual to welcome the child into his family. That is when the child started progressing in her stages and now she is walking.

“I am suffering alone while he is enjoying his life. I just want him to cooperate and perform the rituals so that our child can have a normal life,” she said.

Majana claimed Chazhika is not performing the family rituals to fix her.

“He should put his feelings aside and let us solve the current predicament we are in. I have a burden at hand and when I tell his family members, they ignore me. I have no one to talk to, and I had to go to his workplace so that he could help me,” she said.

Chazhika said he will perform the family rituals after the DNA tests are done and said he is currently saving money for the tests.

“I doubt the child is mine.

‘‘I will perform the rituals maybe in March, but for now I do not have money. I am still saving so that we do the DNA tests,” he said.

Mr Chipato granted the protection order in Chazhika’s favor.

He ordered Majana not to visit Chazhika’s workplace to disturb his peace.
