WITH their relationship turned sour, a Penhalonga woman has approached Mutare Civil Court seeking protection from her abusive husband who is always threatening her with death.

Tsitsi Marima told Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato that her husband, Tinashe Mateyanike was making her life hell on earth with incessant death threats.

To compound her misery, Marima said she was also suffering insults and assaults at the hands of her remorseless husband.

“Your Worship, I cannot take it anymore; I have had enough. This man is always scolding and beating me up. Besides, he calls me names in front of our neighbours and also hurls unprintable words at me.

“If he sees me talking to men from the neighbourhood, he goes berserk and accuses me of being a woman of loose morals. My life has become unbearable and I pray that this honourable court protects me from him,” said Marima.

As if that is not enough, she added, Mateyanike threatened to kill her if she deserts him despite the inhumane treatment he subjects her to.

Mateyanike, however, denied the allegations.

He said Marima was fabricating the case.

He told the court that Marima was having an extra marital affair and he is convinced that it was her lover who advised her to apply for a protection order.

“We are no longer living in peace because she is cheating on me.
“I think she is no longer interested in me and she wants to use this protection order to get rid of me so that she continues with relationship with her lover,” said Mateyanike.

He expressed fear that armed with the protection order, Marima may cook up more allegations against him and this would affect his work.

“I would prefer a divorce than her being granted a protection order,” Mateyanike said.

Mr Chipato, however, granted the protection order in Marima’s favour which is binding for five years.

He ordered Mateyanike to keep peace with his wife and refrain from threatening her.

The couple was also advised to seek counselling services.
