THE District Development Fund (DDF) has intervened to curb water shortages in Nyanga district by drilling four boreholes in each ward to ensure the provision of safe drinking water to the villagers.

Nyanga North MP Cde Chido Sanyatwe confirmed the development amid fears that the district was gradually becoming prone to water-borne diseases.

“DDF has come to our rescue as a district in a bid to make sure clean and safe water is available to everyone. They drilled four boreholes in every ward to ensure that there is safe drinking water for villagers,” she said.

Cde Sanyatwe said thee boreholes will pave a way for creation of irrigation schemes.

“The development will pave way for irrigation schemes as well as improve the villagers’ livelihoods as they were travelling long distances to access safe drinking water. These irrigation schemes also will enhance youth empowerment through employment creation,” she said.

Nyanga District Administrator Mr Nyasha Zindove said DDF also constructed a bridge in Ward 7.

“Not only boreholes were drilled, but also they constructed Gotokote Bridge in Ward 7. Areas after that bridge were now inaccessible due to the destruction of the bridge. Following the construction of this bridge the area is now accessible,” he said.
