A Chimanimani woman who stands accused of killing her father-in-law and sister-in-law by poisoning their food has taken her case to the community court following incessant attacks.

This follows the deaths of Henry Mubururu and his other daughter-in-law, only identified as Tabitha.

When the matter appeared before Acting Chief Mutambara last week on Saturday, tempers flared between the Mubururu family members who were adamant that their brother, Luka Mubururu and his wife, Beauty Muusha, were working in connivance to wipe off the entire family through food poisoning.

They claimed that while Henry and Tabitha died from food poisoning, more family members fell ill after consuming food prepared in Luka’s home.

As a result, they are refraining from visiting Luka’s home out of fear of being poisoned.

Dickson Mubururu alleged that his now late wife, Tabitha, ate poisoned honey given to her by Muusha and died that same day.

“My wife died mysteriously and I am yet to come to terms with her death. She was given a jar of honey by Muusha and her husband. After consuming the honey, the jar exploded as if a bomb had been planted inside.

“My wife died in her sleep that night. However, before her death she told me that she had eaten some honey that she had been given by Muusha.

“Luka is my biological brother but he is a very dangerous man, his wife is also dangerous. We will all die if this matter is not rectified. Our father also died after complaining that he had been poisoned by the duo,” charged Dickson.

Dickson’s older brother, Phibeon, said it is common knowledge that their father died shortly after consuming a cup of tea that had been brewed by Muusha.

“Muusha brewed the tea and gave it to her husband, Luka. Luka took it to our father and after consuming it, he suddenly felt ill and died shortly afterwards. One of them is the killer, but it is also possible that they are working in connivance,” said Phibeon.

He said after their father’s tombstone unveiling ceremony, the tombstone disappeared from the grave.

Since then, the family has been suffering from countless mishaps, mysterious illnesses and mysterious deaths.

“We have been visiting different traditional healers and we have been told that Luka stole the tombstone under the cover of darkness. He has been using it to bewitch other family members.

“He wanted to be the family head despite being younger than most of us. This is how he eventually inherited our father’s village head position following his death. I am sure he killed our father for that position,” said Phibeon.

In her defence, Muusha said for years, her in-laws have been falsely accusing her of killing other family members through food poisoning.

“They label me a witch and claim that I killed their father and my sister-in-law, yet my hands are clean. We should be ordered to consult traditional healers for the truth to be unveiled as my children are now suspecting me of evil doings.

“I want my name to be cleared. The entire Mubururu family labels me a witch and everyone fears eating my food. My life is now a living hell as everyone talks behind my back.

“Phibeon called my son, Office, and told him that I had killed his grandfather as well as his aunt. He should have approached me with those allegations, not my son,” said Muusha.

Muusha’s husband, Luka, sided with her on the issue of consulting spiritual healers.

He denied having a hand in his father’s alleged killing, stating that their father succumbed to a natural ailment.

“What kind of a son would I be to participate in my father’s killing? ‘‘

My brothers and their families are just jealous. Everyone knows that my father was ill for a while before he died. It was a natural illness and no one poisoned his food.

“I was installed the village head on merit and most of these people complaining today were either away or ill. They recommended my appointment and I am shocked that they are saying I used some tricks to land the position.

“I am against accompanying them to consult traditional healers because I am a Christian. If they ask me to go to prophets, I will gladly accompany them. This should be done, even today,” he said.

Acting Chief Mutambara ordered the family to seek spiritual counsel to ascertain the cause of their family members’ deaths.

He adjourned the matter to tomorrow, October 28.

A fierce fight erupted between the feuding parties after the court session and it was stopped by Acting Chief Mutambara’s messengers.
