AFRICA University’s dominance in the Manicaland Basketball League has come under threat from Dangamvura Knights as both teams are now tied on the same number of points.

The two teams have amassed 15 points and have equal chances to win the title race. However, AU still remains the unbeaten team.

Mercenaries and Titans who are on third and fourth positions respectively are also closing the gap on the log leaders. They both have 14 points.

Mercenaries won with 104-31 points against Sixers, while Titans beat Hustlaz 62-52 in last week’s matches.

In the females’ section, it is high time Nets pull up their socks as they are under threat from Sharks which is only a point behind.

Nets have 11 points from six matches, while Sharks have 10 points from five matches.

Mutare Girls’ High, Dangamvura Knights and AU ladies also have six points and are battling for the third position.

Mutare Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo, said chances were high for MGHS to settle for third position at the end of the battle, considering the number of matches they have won and lost compared to AU and Dangamvura Knights.

“MGHS have lost only two matches compared to its two rivals who have lost four matches respectively. This makes their chances of winning the third position higher,” said Dhilwayo.

He also hailed efforts being made by Dangamvura Knights to be the leaders in the male section.

“Their display has been so amazing over the past two weeks and chances are high that they can defy all odds at the end since they still have more matches to play compared to AU. They are a hard working lot.

“These two log leaders have set a good pace for other teams who appear to be learning too fast on what to do to win matches. In that case, this has made this season exciting and full of drama since everyone is fighting for the top positions.

I am urging all basketball fans to continue coming to our match venues.

Their support is greatly appreciated as we continue with our league matches,” he said.
