BEING intimate with a minor backfired for a Mutare man after the court ordered him to perform 70 hours of community service.

Believe Chikomba (18) of Natview Park Mutare pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Mutare magistrate Ms Perseverance Makala.

Prosecuting, Ms Tinotenda Muzondo said on August 21 in Natview Park, Mutare, Chikomba called the complainant and invited her to come to his place since his parents had gone to their rural home.

“Chikomba prepared food and after eating the compliant proceeded to the spare bedroom. She left Chikomba behind watching television in the dining room. At around 10pm Chikomba joined the complainant in the spare bedroom and they started caressing. The accused then removed the complainant’s clothes and became intimate with her,” said MsMuzondo.

The court heard that the pair became intimate again shortly after midnight.

The complainant returned to her place the following morning around 6am.

When the matter came to light, it was reported to the police.

The complainant was examined by a doctor and the medical affidavit proved she had, indeed, been intimate.

Chikomba was weeping in the dock throughout his trial.

He begged the court not to send him to jail, saying his girlfriend had lied to him about her age. Imprisoning him would also jeopardise his future, he pleaded.

Chikomba told the court that his girlfriend was in the habit of coming to his place each time she ran away from her home.
