CHIPINGE Town Council has embarked on rehabilitating the drainage system in the Central Business District as it aims to improve service delivery.
The drainage system in the town was blocked due to siltation caused by the heavy rains that impounded the district when Cyclone Idai struck in March 2019.
Acting Chipinge town secretary Mr James Mutemera said the rehabilitation exercise has so far covered close to 1 000 metres.
“We have covered nearly 1 000m of the drainage system rehabilitation programme. We are also targeting pothole patching, culverts construction and this is being done from council’s own coffers,” said Mr Mutemera.
Mr Mutemera said that council will carry out regular maintenance work on the drainage system by removing deposited sediments as well as clearing blockages and repairing broken pipes.
